Plug Load Controllers


Overview

Plug load controllers are smart receptacles that connect to your Keilton+autani lighting mesh network. They allow you to manage outlet-powered devices—turning them on and off, including them in groups, and automating them with schedules.


Where Plug Load Controllers Appear

Unlike switches and sensors, plug load controllers appear on the Lights page alongside your fixtures. This is because they are controlled devices rather than controlling devices.

Adding a Plug Load Controller

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Navigate to the Lights page.
  2. Tap the + button to search for devices.
  3. Press and hold the button on the receptacle for 6 seconds.
  4. The controller enters pairing mode.
  5. When it appears in the app, select and add it.
  6. The controller now appears on your Lights page.

Controlling the Plug Load

Via App

  • Navigate to the Lights page
  • Tap the plug load icon to turn on/off

Via Physical Button

  • Press the button on the receptacle for manual on/off

Via Group Linkage

  1. Add the plug load to a group with lights
  2. Enable linkage for the group
  3. The receptacle turns on/off automatically with the group

Via Schedule

  1. Create a schedule (More → Schedule)
  2. Associate the plug load to the schedule
  3. Set times for on/off actions

Grouping with Lights

When grouped with lights and linkage is enabled:

  • Plug load turns on when group motion is detected
  • Plug load turns off when group timers expire
  • Provides automatic control for plug-connected devices

Example: Task Lamp at Workstation

  1. Add overhead light and plug load controller to same group
  2. Connect desk lamp to plug load controller
  3. Enable group linkage
  4. Desk lamp turns on/off with overhead light based on occupancy

Setting Rated Power (for energy reporting)

Energy figures are calculated from a wattage you enter, not measured at the outlet. If you leave the wattage blank, the plug load contributes nothing to your energy reports — so set it whenever energy monitoring matters.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. On the Lights page, press and hold the plug load controller's icon to open its settings page.
  2. Locate the wattage field.
  3. Enter the wattage of the connected appliance (see below).
  4. The setting saves automatically.

Enter the wattage of the plugged-in load — not the controller

The controller itself draws almost nothing. What you are describing to the system is the device plugged into it — the task lamp, monitor, space heater, or coffee maker. A 60 W desk lamp on a WF20R is entered as 60 W.

Enter the full appliance wattage. The receptacle switches its load fully on or fully off, so there is no partial-power adjustment to calculate.

Where to find the appliance wattage

  • The appliance's rating label or nameplate
  • Its power supply / brick, if external
  • The manufacturer's specification sheet

The estimate is only as good as the number you enter

If the appliance at that outlet is swapped — a lamp replaced with a heater — update the wattage, or the reports will keep using the old figure. For measured rather than estimated consumption, see the CR01 Energy-Monitoring Dongle, which logs actual data for the zone.


Factory Reset

To reset the plug load controller to factory settings:

  1. Press and hold the button on the receptacle for 6 seconds
  2. The relay clicks to confirm the reset has taken effect
  3. This is the same action as entering pairing mode — the controller is immediately ready to pair with the app again
  4. If already commissioned, it returns to factory defaults

Use this to reclaim a controller

If a plug load controller will not appear when you try to add it, it is probably still commissioned to another zone or app. The 6-second hold clears that binding — listen for the relay click, then search for it again.


Configuration Checklist

  • Add from Lights page
  • Name descriptively (e.g., "Desk 5 Task Lamp")
  • Set rated power to the connected appliance's wattage (required for energy reports)
  • Add to appropriate group (optional)
  • Enable linkage in group (if grouped)
  • Create schedules if needed
  • Test manual and automatic control

Automate a Plug Load with Sensors

A plug load controller (e.g. the WF20R) can respond automatically to occupancy by joining a group with sensors and enabling linkage:

  1. On the Lights page, press and hold the controller to open its dimming page, open sensor settings, and enable the Motion Sensor function for the controller. Set the parameters and Save.
  2. Create or open a group and add the controller together with the sensor-equipped fixtures.
  3. Set the group's sensor parameters, then enable Link for the group.

The controller now shows an "A" (auto mode): it turns ON when sensors in the group detect motion and OFF when they time out. You can still control it manually, or via switches, scenes, and schedules.
